Antique Handware Kitchen Cabinet Design

Antique hardware kitchen cabinet design features details that come from an earlier period in history. Whether they are an authentic restoration or a new model, the unique character of this style brings a sense of age and beauty to a home. Old wood, aged paints and finishes on cabinets that are designed to look like old furniture are all ways to create this look.

Professional interior designers will often prefer an old piece of furniture and give it a new remodel in order to give the room a more authentic character. For example, in a kitchen the refrigerator and freezer can be built into a custom wood cabinet that looks like a traditional armoire. The lighting, faucets, cabinet handles and hardwood floors can all be coordinated to enhance the look of this antique home style.

Repairing Old Hardware

A lot of hardware around the house, both indoors and out, can get old and worn down over time, not to mention rusty and dirty. This can make it difficult and unpleasant to use, but the good news is that this problem is easy to fix with some mouldable silicone.

Sugru is an excellent brand of mouldable silicone that is useful for a variety of DIY repairs. For example, you can take a handful of Sugru and use it to cover up old and rusty hardware while giving it a better grip. It works wonders on old taps, but it's good for many other items as well. Anything that is old or rusty, or has sharp edges you want to cover up, can be improved with some Sugru putty. Other innovative uses include protection for external hard drives and enclosures for flash drives.

Outdoor hardware such as garden chairs can add interest to your landscaping and make it easy to enjoy more time outside this summer. Garden chairs come in a wide variety of styles and materials, and a range of prices to fit any budget. The Adirondack style of outdoor chair is one of the most recognizable designs. It's also referred to in some paces as the Muskoka Chair.

A Quebec company called Cascades has recently begun manufacturing outdoor chairs from recycled materials, such as post-consumer and post-industrial waste, as part of t heir Urbain Design collection. This series also includes pieces like benches and end tables which come in a range of natural colors. The material features an embossed wood-grain look that is attractive and can stand up to all weather conditions.
